Bansal Construction and Becker's Light Up Dayton's New Stewart Street Bridge

Instead of installing ordinary sodium lamps to illuminate a new hybrid pier bridge in downtown Dayton, Bansal Construction and Becker's suggested a "Green" alternative: Long Life LED Fixtures. As a result, the lighting effects of color changing LEDs turned out to be not only uniquely decorative, but economical as well due to their long life and low energy consumption.

"The economics of using LED's was recognized by the city of Dayton" says Ajay Bansal, owner of Bansal Construction, the electrical contractor for the project. The maintenance savings of installing long life LEDs outweighs the slightly higher acquisition cost. The cost to operate LED lamps, per kilowatt hour, is at least 80% lower than incandescent lamps.

Each LED strip fixture with red, blue and green LEDs can be programmed to flash and change color from a street level console. For special events, such as a University of Dayton Flyer game, blue and red lights flash and illuminate the bridge. At Christmas, the lamps can be programmed to change from red to green.
